As a hard-working New Yorker, this is beyond a sad day for our city – especially communities of color. As the son of a lifelong public servant, I grew up learning elected office should be held with the highest form of integrity and service to others. That it can only be held, with the upmost trust and respect of the people you are elected to serve.
Unfortunately, the trust of the people of New York City has been broken. Although my choice to step into political life came because of the many crises we are currently faced with, I would never have imagined the current predicament. Despite his want to blame others and create scenarios, the responsibility belongs to the mayor. A responsibility he has not lived up to. The proper venue for these events to play out is the due process of a courtroom, not City Hall.
We must now turn to those elected officials we still have trust and faith in, to stand up and do the right thing. As we look to turn the page to a brighter New York, it will be incumbent on them to set the example. I look forward to running in the next mayoral election, to help do the same!
God bless our great city, state, and country.
